Audrey first met Mike on an adventure holiday to Greenland in July 1975. Mike and his friend Commander Angus Erskine, both of whom held the Polar Medal with Arctic lasp, for crossing the Greenland Ice Sheet in 1953, took on a different challenge in 1975 as the party consisted of 9 women of various ages, size & fitness!

The party travelled up the West Coast in a small fishing boat and at night whatever the weather the ladies had to put up the tents and cook for the leaders. They stopped off at various remote settlements, meeting the local villagers as well as doing quite a bit of walking. There were spectacular icebergs to see and at night they could be heard groaning as cracks appeared and chunks of ice broke away. A highlight was managing to get to the edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet which covers almost 80% of the country and at its thickest point is around 3km deep.

As a result of this meeting Mike spoke to the travel Club on numerous occasions and did a term as President of the Club.
