Megdaz - birthplace of Berber poetess Mririda n'Ait Attik and reputedly the most beautiful village in the Atlas Mountains

Alan is passionate about trekking in Morocco which he first visited in 1979.  Following his acclaimed presentation at the Travel Adventure Show he comes to the Club to tell us of his experiences of trekking in the Moroccan Atlas. The wonderful thing about the Atlas Mountains of Morocco is that they provide year-round trekking opportunities.

In summer, the High Atlas Mountains provide for ideal trekking. Alan’s tour will take us to the summits of both Jbel Toubkal (4167m), the highest peak in north Africa, and the glacier-carved massif of Irghil Mgoun (4068m) before heading through some lower level routes along the stunning Tessaout Valley, across the secretive Tichka Plateau and finally descending through the awe-inspiring Achabou Gorges.

In winter, head for the Anti-Atlas Mountains. With fewer visitors and less infrastructure, those trekking in these parts must have yet greater resilience. Alan’s talk will focus upon two distinct regions, first that of the dormant volcano, Jbel Sirwa (3305m), followed by the magnificent wilderness of Jbel Sahro, home of the legendary nomadic Aït Atta warriors.
