Guildford Travel Club Presents

Around the World in Eighty Trains

5th December 2023

Monisha Rajesh

The Speaker

Members’ only evening with quiz, light bites and drinks. To be followed by a talk from Monisha Rajesh.

In 2015 Monisha spent seven months travelling on some of the world’s most intriguing railways, including the Trans-Mongolian from Moscow to Beijing, the Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto, Japan’s Shinkansen, and on America’s infamous Amtrak, to name a few. Along the way she met a cast of characters who shaped the bends and curves of her journey, revealing customs and cultures and offering stories in a way that only trains can do.

Monisha Rajesh is a British journalist who has written for The Guardian, The New York Times, Time magazine and Conde Nast Traveller. She is the author of three books about train travel: her second book ‘Around the World in 80 Trains’ won the National Geographic Traveller Book of the Year and she is currently working on her fourth book about the resurgence in sleeper trains.
