Guildford Travel Club Presents

Iceland: Land of Fire and Ice

20th January 2026

David Edwards

Blue Lagoon

David’s love of Iceland takes him there regularly as a guide to enjoy its culture, geothermal energy, glaciers, waterfalls and stunning vistas. Just over 2 hours flight from the UK, the closest wilderness to Europe, abundant volcanism has created an intriguing landscape where no land should rightly be - it is not part of any continent.

Volcanic activity is still shaping and influencing the country and we will explore the currently threatened, and evacuated, town of Grindavik and also visit Heimaey, the 'Pompeii of the North', which was nearly destroyed in the 1973 eruption.
